Mechanical movement has become an endangered art form—much like the handwritten letter or the mechanical watch. In a world of sealed glass screens and invisible code, wonder, discovery, and the evocation of a particular series of emotions persist in a mechanism that, in turn, reveals its own soul.

Ab Aeterno originally began with poetry, germinating into soundscapes, scent, paper, wax, and wood. Now, it lives inside hand-carved walnut and in the gears and shafts of something mechanical.

At the heart of each piece is an 18-note Sankyo mechanical movement made in Japan.

No batteries nor electricity required—just the simple ritual akin to striking a match: you wind it, it plays, and the repetition embellishes the patina over the memory.
