Ab Aeterno™ is an eighteenth- and twenty-first-century design house born from poetry.
Operating at the intersection of strategy, war, navigation, physics, correspondence, gentility, sensuality, memory, and verse, Ab Aeterno brings forms and practices of the eighteenth century into contemporary life through poetry, music, scent, portraiture, mechanical objects, moving image, and design.
Its work began with co-bylined verse written across two centuries and issued as limited-edition German Etching® broadsides and epistolary poetry. From those poems emerged the music of Signal & Post™, released through Meridianhafen Recordings™, and subsequently an expanding world of objects and experiences: portrait miniatures, music boxes, scented candles, exhibitions, soundscapes, wedding music, and moving image.
The house is concerned not merely with what survives time, but with what may be carried across it—and how historical forms of intimacy, remembrance, correspondence, and beauty may be made useful again in the twenty-first century.
