If the Centuries Were the Aisle
People usually imagine an aisle as a short distance.
But what if the distance between two people were not measured in metres at all?
What if it were measured in years?
In generations?
In centuries?
And life? It leaves a signature wherever it goes.
If the Centuries Were the Aisle begins with two signals moving independently through time. Their periods differ. Their phases do not agree. For a long while, they appear to belong to separate systems entirely.
And then, gradually, the lines begin to converge.
Based on “If the Centuries Were the Aisle,” an original composition with a deeply personal story written especially for Ab Aeterno by Signal & Post, the card draws upon the physics of oscillation and the rhythm of military cadence to imagine separation not as absence, but as distance still being travelled towards a reunion that ought to have been impossible.
Each wave continues according to its own motion until, at last, two rhythms once divided by time arrive at the same point. When two lives remain oriented towards one another with a common objective, distance need not be the end of the story. Love may yet bring their separate cadences into step.
The Words
If the
CENTURIES
were the aisle,I’d keep on walking...
until your
CADENCE
matched mine.A correspondence card for anyone who has ever felt that the person, place, or life meant for them existed somehow out of reach—yet understood that distance itself need not be a hindrance if two people can still listen for one another’s cadence and, eventually, lock step in time to find each other.
